How To Create A Gorgeous Garden To Help Sell Your Home

Posted 22nd May, 2020

After closing our doors for 8 weeks the property market is now open again and so are our branches in Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage. It’s great to be back advising people on how to sell their property and helping those on the lookout for their dream home. One thing that we are hearing from our prospective buyers is how much being in lockdown has made them realise the value of having a garden – particularly if they have young children. This means that homes with gorgeous gardens will be in high demand over the summer season.

So, if you are thinking of putting your home on the market why not take advantage of the good weather and the re-opening of garden centres to spend some time sprucing up your plot. We have some simple tips to help you create a glorious garden!

1. Love your lawn

One of the simplest ways to smarten up your home is a freshly mown lawn. Straggly and overgrown grass areas can make a property look scruffy and may give potential buyers worries about how they will manage the garden, so it’s important that lawns look neat and tidy. A luscious green lawn can look particularly welcoming in the summer so now is the ideal time to put down some grass seed and make sure that you remember to water it on hot sunny days.

2. Tidy up your trees

When people view your property they will be looking at any additional costs they may face in term of maintenance when they buy a home. This means that overgrown or tangled trees could be a definite negative when it comes to agreeing a price. Investing some time and money in hiring a tree surgeon to cut back branches can be a good investment and can add light and space to your garden too.

3. Create the perfect patio

A key feature of most gardens is the patio area – where prospective buyers will be able to imagine themselves relaxing with their family, sunbathing and having BBQ’s with friends. If your decking is looking a little worse for wear or your patio is being taken over by weeds then it is well worth making the effort to give it a sweep or a jet-wash. If you have garden furniture you can make sure that your outside area is well ‘staged’ by adding cushions, lanterns and fairy lights to give it a homely and welcoming touch.

4. Add a splash of colour

An easy way to enhance any outdoor area is to add a splash of colour with some bright summer flowers. If you are planning on leaving your home you may not want to plant up flower beds but instead you could make up some cheerful patio pots or hanging baskets. If you are short on time you can even buy these ready planted from most garden centres. As well as helping your garden to look great for prospective homeowners you will be able to take them with you to your new property.

We predict that a great garden is going to be a real selling point for vendors over the coming months so make the most of this opportunity to show off what your property has to offer. If you are planning on selling a property and would like a valuation or you are a buyer looking for a home with a garden then please get in touch with us.
